While we were preparing the radio show on the Rom*nja families’ protest in Berlin against iminent deportation by the german state, some of the families went on to Regensburg and tried to find shelter at Regensburg Cathedral. After some days the Diocese of Regensburg called the police and prompted state authorities to evict those people by force from the church’s premises. One of the people who had asked the church for shelter was arrested by police forces due to a complaint the church had placed against the group. Look here for further information.

Während der Vorbereitungen zur Sendung über den Protest der Rom*nja Familien in Berlin gegen die drohende Abschiebung durch den deutschen Staat, sind einige der Familien weiter nach Regensburg gefahren um dort im Dom Zuflucht zu suchen. Nach einigen Tagen hat die Diözese Regensburg die Polizei gerufen und veranlasst, dass die bei ihr schutzsuchenden Menschen gewaltsam vom Kirchengelände geräumt wurden. Ein Mitglied der Gruppe wurde von der Polizei in Haft genommen, weil die Kirche Anzeige erstattet hat. Weitere Informationen findet Ihr hier

Since May Rom*nja families are protesting in Berlin against imminent deportation and for the right to stay of all Rom*nja people. On May 22nd they choose the ‘Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Victims of National Socialism’ as a symbolic place to stage their protest, since today, 80 years after the Holocaust, they are still facing structural discrimination, social and political exclusion and deportation. The ‘Association for the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe’ who as well is in charge of the memorial dedicated to the Sinti and Roma victims reacted swiftly and prompted the police to eject the Rom*nja families by force from the ‘Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Victims’.

What are the demands of the Rom*nja families in Berlin, how is the situation of the Rrom*nja in Germany and Europe and how can we campaign together in solidarity? We will discuss these topics with our guests – people of the Rom*nja families and from other Rom*nja groups in Berlin.

Seit Mai protestieren Rom*nja Familien in Berlin gegen die drohende Abschiebung und für ein Bleiberecht für alle Rom*nja . Sie haben am 22. Mai das Denkmal für die im NS ermordeten Sinti und Rom*nja als symbolischen Ort für ihren Protest gewählt, weil sie heute, 80 Jahre nach dem Holocaust, noch immer mit struktureller Diskriminierung, sozialer und politischer Ausgrenzung und Abschiebungen konfrontiert sind. Die ‘Stiftung Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas’, die Trägerstiftung des Mahnmals, veranlasste daraufhin mithilfe der Polizei die gewaltsame Vertreibung der protestierenden Rrom*nja Familien vom ‘Denkmal für die ermordeten Sinti und Rom*njas’.

Was sind die Forderungen der Rrom*nja Familien in Berlin, wie ist die Situation der Rrom*nja in Deutschland und Europa und wie können wir unsere Kämpfe solidarisieren? Wir werden diese Themen mit unseren Gästen – Vertreter*innen der Rrom*nja Familien und anderen Rrom*nja Vertretungen in Berlin diskutieren.

Solidarität mit den vom “Denkmal für die im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Sinti und Roma” geräumten Roma.
Achtung!!! Da noch weitere betroffene Menschen teilnehmen möchten und erst in den nächsten Tagen anreisen können, haben wir die Demonstration und die Dauerkundgebung auf Freitag, den 3. Juni, verschoben. Vielen Dank für Euer Verständnis und Eure Solidarität!

Weil Deutschland uns abschieben will und wir keine andere Wahl haben, haben wir das “Denkmal für die im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Sinti und Roma” am 22.05.2016 besetzt – den Ort, an dem an unsere deportierten und ermordeten Großeltern erinnert werden soll. Die Politik sollte sich schämen. Bereits kurz nach Mitternacht wurde unser Protest gewaltvoll geräumt, unsere Kinder wurden an diesem Ort geschlagen und bedroht. Das haben wir und unsere Kinder nicht verdient. Wir befürchten, dass auch unsere Enkelkinder Gewalt, Ausgrenzung und Rassismus erleben werden.
Das werden wir nicht zulassen!
Deswegen werden wir am Dienstag, den 31.05.2016 an diesen Ort zurückkehren. Es ist der richtige Weg, um auf unsere Situation aufmerksam zu machen. Es ist der richtige Ort! Wir haben den Platz ausgesucht aus Respekt und als Würdigung unserer im Nationalsozialismus ermordeten Vorfahren.
Wann wird Deutschland uns Sinti und Roma endlich mal als Menschen respektieren?
Wir Roma haben kein Land und kein Land schuldet uns etwas. Doch wir haben ein Recht auf ein würdevolles Leben. Das schuldet uns Deutschland! Wir fordern unser Recht in Deutschland ein!
Wir verlangen eine Revision der Asylrechtsverschärfung, bedingungsloses Bleiberecht in Deutschland und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe. Das historische Versprechen, Sinti und Roma zu integrieren, muss mehr als 70 Jahre nach der Ermordung einer halben Million Angehöriger unserer Minderheit – fast einundneunzig Prozent – endlich Realität werden.
Wir werden vom Gesetz und der Politik im Stich gelassen. Alle Sinti und Roma aus dem Balkan müssen Deutschland verlassen, weil diese Länder als vermeintlich sichere Herkunftsländer bestimmt wurden. Doch für uns sind die Balkanländer nicht sicher. Dort ist unser Leben bedroht, wir werden systematisch isoliert, ausgegrenzt, verfolgt und sind staatlicher Willkür ausgesetzt. Für uns gibt es in diesen Ländern kein Leben, Abschiebung ist keine Option.
Wir erheben uns für alle Sinti und Roma. Wir werden und können nicht aufgeben! Wir kämpfen weiter und fordern alle Sinti und Roma sowie die Bürgerinnen und Bürger Deutschlands dazu auf, uns in unserem Kampf um Bleiberecht und einer Lebensperspektive für Sinti und Roma zu unterstützen.
Die Solidaritätsbekundungen der Politiker und Politikerinnen und auch die Versprechen derer, die für die Räumung verantwortlich sind, sollen nicht länger leere Worte bleiben. Wir werden gegenüber vom Eingang des Denkmals bleiben, bis wir unsere Rechte, die uns in den 50er Jahren zugesprochen wurden, bekommen.

For the Right to stay for all Sinti and Roma

Solidarity with the Roma who were evicted from the “Memorial to the
Sinti and Roma Victims of National Socialism”

Manifestation and rally in front of the Memorial | 3th June 2016, 17:00 at Alexanderplatz (Weltzeituhr)

Due to the fact that Germany wants to deport us and because we do not have
another choice, we have occupied the “Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Victims of
National Socialism” on the 22 of May 2016, the place for the remembrance
of our deported and murdered grandparents. The politics should be
ashamed. Soon after midnight our protest was evicted violently, our
children were beaten and threatened at this place. We and our children
have not deserved that. We are afraid that even our grandchildren will
experience violence, exclusion and racism too. We will not allow that!
That´s why we will return to that place on Friday 3th June 2016.

This is the right way to call for attention to our situation. It is the
right place! We have chosen the place in respect and in commemoration of
our murdered ancestors during the National Socialism. When will Germany
finally respect us Sinti and Roma as human beings? We Roma have no state
and no state owes us something. But we have the right of a life in
dignity. This is what Germany owes to us. We demand our right in Germany!

We demand a revision of the tightening of the asylum laws, unconditional
right to stay in Germany and social participation. The historical
promise to integrate Sinti and Roma has to be realized more than 70
years after the murder of half a million of members of our minority –
almost 91 percent.

We are abandoned by law and politics. All Sinti and Roma from the
Balkans have to leave Germany because these states are declared as so
called 'safe countries of origin'. But for us the Balkan countries are not
safe. Our lives are threatened and we are isolated, excluded and
persecuted systematically and we are exposed to despotism of
the state. For us there is no life in these countries, deportation is no
option.

We are rising up for all Sinti and Roma. We will not give up! We cannot
give up! We keep fighting and ask all Sinti and Roma and all German
citizens to support our struggle for the right to stay and for a life
perspective for Sinti and Roma.

The declarations of solidarity by politicians and also the promises of
those who are responsible for the eviction should no longer be empty
words. We will stay in front of the entrance of the memorial until we
get our rights, which were awarded to us in the 1950s.
