Living conditions in the emergency shelter of Osloer Straße 23-26, in Berlin, range from bad to worse. Those who live there in “transitory” manner denounce the sanitary situation and the permanent mistreatment of the employees working for the security company WISAG and BTB Bildungszentrum. These companies receive thousands of Euros per month from the German State to ensure cleanliness, hygiene, food provisions for people who arrive in Berlin, seeking asylum from war and economic and political conflicts in their countries of origin.
One day in the emergency shelter of Osloerstraße is enough to raise concern about the extreme vulnerability of the residents. Here follow some details of the current situation, for which there doesn’t seem to be signs of improvement.
For those unfamiliar with this emergency shelter, it’s built inside the regular school gym. In that space, beds for about 100-250 people are located. Women, men, children sleep all in the same space, which has no ventilation or natural light and is clearly overcrowded. Besides, the sanitations are badly maintained and usually have no doors. The isolation from the people of the rest of the city is directly proportional to the confinement and the lack of privacy that these people suffer every day. On top of this, the bad conditions of the food deserve particular mention. Any human being can realize how harmful it is to eat everyday unhealthy catering food and especially when the food is not adapted to the customs and cultures of the residents. For example, people could not be sure about whether the food is halal or not. The food is generally not enough to cover the recommended calories you need as an adult or child per day.
In addition to this, the bad conditions increased in the last months and so large amounts of rats were drawn to the building (as shown in photos). There have been cases of people attacked by rats overnight. Although residents notified the company BTB about it, nothing was done. When residents demonstrated against health conditions, they receive harsh treatment by the security company WISAG. Beside living in an totally controlled environment, where even a basic question for information can turn into a threat of being kicked out of the emergency shelter, people live in a state of an constant uncertainty, for months not receiving any information about their future integration or what will happen to them at all, forcing some into depression and potential suicides.
While the company BTB continues to make emergency centers profitable business, people living there still suffer extreme vulnerability, isolation, lack of information, verbal abuse, and threats. The situation is urgent and something must be done now, not tomorrow or next week.

Drastische Bedingungen in der Notunterkunft Osloer Straße 23-26 in Berlin
Die Lebensbedingungen in der Notunterkunft, Osloer Straße 23-26 in Berlin, reichen von schlecht zu schlechter. Die Menschen, die in “vorübergehend” Situation dort leben, prangern die Bedingungen an. Dazu gehören die ständige Schikanierung der Mitarbeitenden der Security Firma (WISAG) mitarbeitenden und des BTB Bildungszentrums. Diese Firmen erhalten tausende von Euros pro Monat vom Deutschen Staat. Sie sollen die Reinigung, Hygiene und Essensversorgung für Menschen sicherstellen, die hierher aus Kriegsregionen geflohen sind und Asyl beantragen.
Ein Tag in der Notunterkunft, Osloer Straße, ist ausreichend, um sich um die extreme Verletzbarkeit der Bewohner_innen Sorgen zu machen. Es folgen einige Details der momentanen Situation, die sich nicht zu ändern scheint.
Für diejenigen, die nicht das Gebäude kennen: es ist eine Notunterkunft in einer normalen Turnhallen einer Schule. In diesen Räumen gibt es Betten für über 250 Menschen. Frauen, Männer und Kinder leben alle gemeinsam im selben Raum, der ohne natürliche Außenluft und Licht auskommen muss und überbelegt und überfüllt ist. Zudem sind die sanitären Einrichtungen schlecht umgesetzt: es gibt u.a. keine Türen. Die Isolation der Menschen von den Bürger_innen der Stadt, Berlin, verhält sich proportional zur Fehlenden Privatsphäre dieser Menschen – worunter die Asylsuchenden leiden. Obendrein bedarf die schlechte Situation der Essensversorgung besonderer Erwähnung. Jeder Mensch wird es selbst realisieren, wie schlecht es ist jeden Tag ungesundes Catering Essen zu essen, welches nicht einmal den Gebräuchen und der Kultur der Bewohner_innen angepasst ist. Es ist beispielsweise nicht klar, ob das Essen „halal“ ist. Das Essen ist häufig nicht ausreichend, für die empfohlene Kalorien, die Erwachsenen und Kinder pro Tag zu sich nehmen sollten.
Zusätzlich sind verschlechterten sich die Bedingungen in den letzten Monaten auf Grund einer großen Anzahl an Ratten, die in die Turnhalle gekommen sind (siehe Fotos im Anhang). Es wurden Menschen in der Nacht von den Ratten attackiert und gebissen. Obwohl die Bewohner_innen die Betreiberfirma BTB-Bildungszentrum darüber informiert haben, wurde nichts geändert. Als die Menschen gegen die gesundheitlichen Bedingungen in der Notunterkunft protestierten, wurden sie von Mitarbeitenden der Security-Firma WISAG sehr aggressiv und unangemessen behandelt. Die Menschen leben zusätzlich in einer total kontrollierten Umwelt, wo jede Frage – selbst nach grundlegenden Informationen – zu einer Gefahr wird aus der Unterkunft rausgeworfen zu werden. Sie leben in einer monatelangen unsicheren Situation – ohne Information und der Ungewissheit, was mit ihnen geschieht und wie sie in die Gesellschaft integriert werden. Diese Situation führt zu Depression und einer Suizidgefahr.
Während die Betreiber-Firma BTB mit der Notunterkunft ein profitables Geschäft macht, leben die Menschen dort unter extremer Verletzlichkeit, Isolierung, Desinformation, Beschimpfungen und Drohungen. Die Situation muss dringend geändert werden und nicht erst Morgen oder nächste Woche, sondern jetzt.
