In our own words

Refugee Women in Germany tell their stories

In 2013, we, the activists from International Women Space (IWS), set ourselves the task of documenting the lives and stories of refugee women in Germany. We approached the project in the Latin American tradition of testimonial literature – looking to amplify the voice of the voiceless.

“In contrast to conventional writing about the colonial situation, which is produced at the centers of global power and near the apices of class difference, testimonial literature is produced by subaltern peoples on the periphery or the margin of the colonial situation. Thus the margins of empire are now “writing back” in an overdue attempt to correct the Western canon and its versions of “truth”. Testimonial literature has been defined by George Yuidice as an authentic narrative, told by a witness who is moved to narrate by the urgency of a situation (e.g., war, oppression, revolution, etc.).” – Voices for the Voiceless

United Neighbours?! Mobi- und Diskussionsveranstaltung

(deutsch unten)

Thursday, 25th of september // 8 p.m. // New Yorck/Bethanien

The protests at Oranienplatz, at the occupied school in Ohlauer Straße and now at Gürtelstraße have taken the struggle against racism and capitalism in the city to a new level. We, refugees and urban activists, fight together against conditions in which our need for housing, freedom of movement, solidarity and a self-determined life are suppressed by the government and the police. On September 27th, therefore there will be a united demonstration.

Network to mobilize for the European Parliament elections in 2014

Meeting on the 14th of December in New York Bethanien at 3pm

Solidarity with migrants – against exclusion and oppression!

The Oranienplatz Refugee Strike together with an international network of sans-papiers and refugees initiated since 2 months a European network to build a great march to Brussels in may 2014.

Today, we are calling for solidarity to organize the resistance: all Groups who feel politically concerned by the abolishment of the minimum score in the EU parliament that will let extreme right parties enter the EU assembly, by Frontex and Dublin II, by the racist and excluding policy of the EU and the rise of fascist forces throughout Europe!
