Declaration of Solidarity by the protesting refugees from Oranienplatz to the attacks on 17th of June 2013

—Traduction française plus bas—

—Aşağıda Türkçe çevirisi—

Together against Racism and social exclusion, division and desolidarization!

We, the protesting refugees from Oranienplatz declare:

After the attack on a refugee that occurred at Monday and the following escalation, which was provoked by the police, we declare: We will not be played of against each other and together we will fight for our rights! We will not allow parts of the media, the politics or the society as such to construct an “ethnic“conflict that incites people who are inflicted by racism and social disclosure against each other. Racism is a complex social phenomenon. We will not allow anybody to divide us. The concept “Divide and rule” which declares different „groups“ as enemies will not succeed! We strongly oppose any attempt of a generalizing negative attribution that directly or indirectly aims to stigmatize, criminalize and marginalize parts of the society with respect to a supposed origin, religion, lifestyle or social status. We can only overcome Racism and social exclusion in a collective and in solidary way.

There are many rumors and speculations about this incident. We, who directly had to face it, have hardly been asked for concrete information about what really happened, backgrounds and contexts. That applies equally for the media representatives who pursuing their own political interests have spread false information as for the police and their respective press releases. Concerning the health situation of the attacked person in the beginning only small and superficial injuries were reported by the media. The police information stating he already had been released is wrong. At the time being he is still in the hospital due to the severance of his injuries! And parts of the media still ignore the fact that the murderous attack has been the reason for the clashes. The refugees are depicted as the problem and cause of everything. Therefore we demand the media to be aware of their responsibility and to come back to a true report, based on facts and careful research as this will help preventing further escalation.

The support in the area, the town and further on is huge. Many groups and persons from different so called “migrant backgrounds” have supported and still are supporting the refugee movement. There was a lot of solidarity shown on the evening directly following the attack and the demonstration at the following day. Also, we support many social movements and take part in them. We strongly oppose the construct of a conflict between a homogenous refugee camp and a homogenous “Turkish community” or neighborhood, regarding it a lie and provocation. In the course of our movement, we’ve met persons that out of their own personal interest or political/racist motives complain about and polemize against the refugee protests as whole, the refugee camp or the occupied school in Ohlauerstraße. We have been informed from surrounding gastronomical institutions that the politician Kurt Wansner (CDU) hands out his business cards and tries to initialize signature-lists against the camp. Wansner is already known for his racist talks. We confront everybody who wants to use the racist attack and the following provoked escalation for their own causes. We, the protesting Refugees, will not allow that we will be driven out or incited against other parts of the society which themselves are affected by discrimination and exclusion.

We very much thank all the people from different backgrounds that have supported us and our demands from the beginning of our protests. We especially thank for the experienced broad solidarity shown after the racist attack and the following campaign against us by parts of the Media, politics and society. We invite all the neighbors and interested people to come around and discuss the meaning of the protest at Oranienplatz with us, exchange experiences and stand collectively with us against prejudices. United we will be strong. For a supporting society based on solidarity and without racism, social exclusion and discrimination. The Problem is Racism!

Your protesting refugees.
